My experience at The Rare Beauty Café pop-up sparked my interest and got me thinking about what the role of an Event Planner within the fashion industry could entail. However, it is difficult to say what a ‘typical day' for an Event Planner includes, as each event can be completely different from the last. Nonetheless, the responsibilities for planning each event remain similar.

An Event Planner must plan and organise every small detail to create the perfect atmosphere for their client – whether it’s a brand or a part of a Fashion Show. Alongside designing the overall concept, they must also consider the venue, the staff, the styling and the facilities that will be available. Their job carries on into the duration of the event, ensuring everything follows the schedule - and if not, they must resolve these issues.

It is key that Event Planners have strong organisation skills. After all, the event depends on them to run smoothly, creating a positive experience for guests. Furthermore, Event Planners must have great communication skills, they need to be able to listen and take on board their client’s initial ideas – alongside communicating with a team to put the event together.

Although this role may sound very managerial – there is still a creative element. Event Planners design the overall concepts (in accordance with the guidelines their client has given them). If, for example, an Event Planner is creating an event for a designer to showcase their latest collection – the event must compliment and enhance the collection and the concept behind it. If I were in this role, the creative side would be my favourite part. As someone who loves creating visuals, I think creating an atmosphere that fits a particular concept would be an exciting challenge. I imagine watching the event come to life from a concept and seeing guests enjoy themselves would be rewarding.

I love coming up with the initial concept with a client (the look and feel of the show) and then seeing it come to fruition weeks later.” – Shannon Davidson, Fashion Event Co-Ordinator.

I personally find the concept of Fashion Events fascinating and will always jump at the opportunity to attend. Over the years, I have attended a couple of Pop-Up events, and I always thoroughly enjoy them. I love watching a brand and its identity come to life, I feel that Fashion Events allow you to grasp the concept of a brand and the message behind it. I think Fashion Event Planning would be an incredibly rewarding career, however, I don't think it is the career for me – as I much prefer digital image-making. However, after research, I really appreciate the artistry behind Event Planning and will keep this in mind when attending any future events.
